2018 started with grand plans for our sporting goals. It started with a clear focus and an actual plan. Unfortunately it ended with not a huge amount being achieved.
Reflecting back, moving to Poland definitely had an impact but more so the over ambitious training plan. Following along intense training plans with little base fitness was, in hindsight, also not a great idea. Regular bouts of burn out and injury plagued the entire year.
Unfortuantely it culminated in not achieving the initial goal of the half ironman and ultimately running Liam’s ankles into the ground.
2019 early on followed a pretty familar pattern. Over ambitiousness, a lack of balance and a plan that was too strenuous too early. That knocked a pretty large dent in confidence and has resulted in a little more injury. Who knew that following an off the shelf plan might not work for you?!
We’re both in a better place now fitness wise and have finalised a few of the plans for the year.
The big news is that Gabby has signed up for the Warsaw Marathon on September 29th! This will be her first ever marathon and she’s equal parts excited and terrified.

Liam has signed up for his first ever sprint triathlon on June 2nd with plans to follow that up with an Olympic distance triathlon in early September (and maybe another sprint inbetween).

Both are very different goals, very different focuses but as a team we’re working together to help support each other. We’re combining workouts where possible, or splitting and working on our own.
Wish us luck and if anyone’s got any advice on how to blend triathlon training and marathon training, then let us know!

Great post 😃
