Well, the Road to Kraków has come to an end, an end which, honestly I could see coming.

It’s now less than 8 weeks until race day and I’ve not yet made it to 5km in distance.
Since taking a few tentative steps running over the last few weeks, the focus has purely been on formwork. With that in mind, there’s no time to safely recover from injury and build up the necessary miles to be able to finish the marathon without risking reinjury.
With Kraków now out of the window, thoughts change to the Triathlon season and building strength on the bike whilst rebuilding technique in the swim.
This has meant that it’s drills, drills, drills to try and change things. And change is happening, slowly.
It’s strange trying to unlearn/relearn things that you’ve been doing for many, many years. Whether that’s in the pool or out on the road running. There’s a mental block to it but feeling the change is great.
Things feel different, feel awkward, but there’s progress.
In the pool, working on pull technique my average 25m drill time has dropped by nearly 10 seconds (which is huge) and all at the same time being “easier”. This has resulted in a real-life improvement in my average 100m time by almost 30 seconds.
Running is different, we’re still so early in the rebuilding phase that I’m not sure what the results will be. I can say though, it feels different. It’s almost like a memory is coming back of running more efficiently back in my school days.
So onto the planning for the Triathlon season we go.

Currently in the plan are the Sprint of Triathlon Sokola and the Olympic at Krasnik, both of which were done last year. Outside of that, there are a couple more that are being looked at, maybe a few earlier in the season to keep practising racing and, of course, for fun!
